Harvard Boys Lacrosse

FAQ’s for Players and Parents (Spring 2020 Registration)

Welcome to the Harvard Youth Lacrosse Boys Program! The Harvard Youth Lacrosse program offers players an opportunity to learn and enjoy the “fastest game on two feet”.

The Harvard Youth Lacrosse (HYL) program is open to students in grades 1-8. We welcome players not only from the town of Harvard, but also surrounding towns.
In 2019 we launched a new Kindergarten co-ed program, “Mini Stix” that will be a fun, play-based introduction to lacrosse and include a stick.

Do I have to know anything about lacrosse to play?

No prior experience is required or expected. We will teach the basic skills necessary to play.

When is registration

Registration opens late fall and runs through early winter.

Do I need special equipment?
Yes. At a minimum, the rules require the following for boys: a regulation helmet with chinstrap, mouth guard, regulation gloves, shoulder pads, elbow pads, and a lacrosse stick. "Long sticks" are routinely used by the defense (beginning U13). HYL is doing what it can to encourage equipment swaps; however, for new players, we strongly recommend you buy a new helmet due to safety concerns around used helmets. Also, the HYL program will make some used or new equipment available to families facing financial hardship.

When is the lacrosse season?

Practices begin in March and the season runs thru mid-June.

What league do the HYL boys teams play in?

The HYL boys participate in the Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse League (MBYLL).

What is the practice schedule?

Two times per week, usually in the early evenings. We usually conduct a few pre-season indoor clinics followed by outdoor practices when weather permits and throughout the season.

What is the game schedule?

Games are usually Sunday afternoons between noon and 5:00 PM.  There is an even split between Home and Away games.

What do I get for my registration fee?
The registration fee varies by age and league. It covers any league dues, the referees, field use, team supplies, end-of-season tournament, end-of-season jamboree, goalie equipment, lacrosse balls, etc...

Coaches and other volunteers are needed to ensure this program runs. Interested parents should contact Jon Burke at
