Registration for Spring 2020 is now open and we’re looking forward to a great season! We have programs available for boys and girls ages Kindergarten through 8th grade. We welcome players from the town of Harvard and also those from surrounding towns. These are developmental teams, and no experience is necessary! We welcome any player interested in learning “the fastest game on two feet.” Please take note of the instructions and information below.
REGISTRATION ENDS FEBRUARY 5TH
HYL is a 100% volunteer run, non-profit organization. We are always looking for more parents to get involved with our boys and girls boards. Please reach out if you are willing to help with coaching, fundraising, or admnistrative duties, etc.
Every player in grades 1-8 needs a current membership valid through 7/1/20 with either MBYLL (boys) or US Lacrosse (girls) in order to complete your Harvard Youth Lacrosse Registration. You will be prompted to do this during the registration process.
Key Season Dates
*Girls grades 5 and older first games: Sunday, March 29
*Girls 3/4 first game: April 5
*Boys U11 and above first game: April 5
*Boys U9 first game: April 19
*Girls 1/2 first game: April 26

*Practices will begin in March indoors for most teams. Games are always on Sundays, with an occasional makeup during the week. Most teams practice twice a week during the regular season in addition to the Sunday game. Outdoor practice schedules cannot be confirmed until coaching is secured and Park and Rec has assigned field space. Please visit our FAQ pages for info on last year’s practice schedules.
Girls play in the Founders Girls Lacrosse League (www.fgll.org) ; boys play in the Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse League (www.mbyll.org ) .
HYL registration fees vary by program/age level (see below). We do offer sibling discounts and scholarships as noted below. Registration fees cover rented turf space (a necessity in New England), league fees, referee fees, uniforms, town equipment (cages/goals), goalie gear, balls, field lining fees, maintenance, etc. All levels with the exception of Kindergarten must also pay a registration fee to either Mass Bay $40 (boys) or US Lacrosse $30 (girls). This cost is controlled by those organizations and required for insurance purposes. The Kindergarten fee includes a lacrosse stick that can used for league play up through grade 4.
Harvard Youth Lacrosse believes in providing the opportunity to play to all who desire it, regardless of financial circumstances. Scholarships covering registration fees are available. Please contact us with inquiries at
. These inquiries will be kept confidential. We also have a fluctuating inventory of donated equipment that can be loaned out.
Before beginning the registration process, please create an account for yourself, using your birthdate. Please do not use your child’s birthdate for your account, as the system will not allow anyone under 18 to complete the registration process. After you have created your account you will be able to add an account for each child during the registration process.
Each player will receive a new custom uniform included with their registration consisting of a jersey and shorts (Mini Stix get a t-shirt). We have a new provider this year with very nice components for a much better price. They even offer the ability to purchase individual components as needed in the future with no upcharge. Please be sure to select sizes for your child when prompted. Please note, all uniform orders are collected and submitted together. To receive the uniforms in time for first games, the order must be submitted by February 10th. If you register after that time, we cannot guarantee a uniform in time for the first games and/or sizing preference.
For Boys: Players are required to have a regulation helmet with chinstrap, mouthguard*, regulation gloves, shoulder pads, elbow pads, and a lacrosse stick. "Long poles" are routinely used by the defense (beginning U13). Cleats are very helpful. HYL is doing what it can to encourage equipment swaps; however, for new players, we strongly recommend you buy a new helmet due to safety concerns around used helmets. Also, the HYL program will make some used or new equipment available to families facing financial hardship.
For Girls: Players are required to have a US Lacrosse approved girls stick (no boys sticks except for Junior Warps legal through grade 2), goggles & mouthguard*. Cleats are very helpful.
*SISU makes a great mouthguard (more thin & comfortable) that is approved by US Lacrosse and all major sports organizations and can be found on Amazon or direct through SISU.
HYL will provide necessary goalie equipment for all levels.
